Tubes or Not, that is the ?

So Gianna woke up this morning pullllling on her ears and with a neon green runny nose.  She was also up throughout the night wanting to nurse...tale tale signs of ear infection in out household.  For the 5th monday in a row, yes I said 5th we were off to the pediatrician.  Ear infection.....oh and we are still on antibiotics from the one last week....
Anyway, she got a shot, new antibiotics, and a referral to the ENT.  Now, my husband is so against tubes or surgery of any kind for her, and I think part of this is her being a girl.  Me, I want her to be happy and comfortable.  Any other mamas have experience with tubes?  John Gary never had to have them, even though we were on the brink a couple of times.
I dont want her to have surgery if she doesnt have too, is there any other way to clear them up?
Suggestions and real mama advice would be appreciated!
Happy Monday!

  1. Have you tried chiropractic adjustments with her? I've had a couple friends whose little ones have ended up avoiding the tubes because of it. My son has been seeing our chiro a few times a year since he was a week or so old.

  2. You will want to avoid dairy while she has the infection. I don't bring my kids for antibiotics anymore since my son had a bunch of ear infections in his first year and had antibiotics almost every time. My daughter never had antibiotics for any of her ear infections and she gets them rarely (and they are much more mild). They still get them every now and then. Last week they both had ear infections and we skipped our daily milk and let it clear up on its own. Almost all infections will clear on their own within 1-2 weeks (it took a full week to clear last week for my kiddos) but they were no worse for wear. Just a nasty cough and 1 or 2 nights of tossing and turning. When I was a child, I had such bad ear infections my mom took me to a ear specialist to see if I was deaf or just sick!! She quickly removed dairy from my diet and that was the end of the infections. Maybe try removing milk from your diet and see if it helps her? Good luck!!

  3. Liz, I know this sounds crazy, but find a good chiropractor that is used to working on babies. Alex also was pretty close to tubes, and the first time Dan threw his back out, we took him to the chiro. Alex had an ear infection that same time and I was going to take him to the Urgent Care while we waited for Dan. But the chiro (who was a friend of ours) urged me to try to get him adjusted first. So we did, his ears cleared up in a day (with no antibiotics!), and we've not had a problem since. The chiro said often the little tube(?) or whatever it is can slip, and if it does even a little, it can make them more prone to infection. It's worth a try at least before doing surgery.
